P.R.I.M.E./Care

P.R.I.M.E./Care is an inclusive play center that was started in 1974. P.R.I.M.E./Care is a place where typical toddlers play beside toddlers with developmental delays. P.R.I.M.E./Care is based on a sensory-motor/developmental approach to learning. The toddler is accompanied to the play center with the parent and participates with their parent in a variety of both individual and group activities that encourage hands-on exploration of the environment, social interaction with peers, and promotes the acquisition of cognitive and speech and language skills. A major premise of the center is that learning should be fun. All infant/toddlers are evaluated and a portfolio is developed for each child.. P.R.I.M.E./Care is open Monday through Thursday and is staffed by a developmental therapist with a masters and a child care assistant. P.R.I.M.E./Care is funded by the United Way and private donations.

Play is often talked about as a relief from serious learning. But for children playing is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood."
